What is arthroscopy?

It is a diagnostic method during which the orthopaedic specialist examines the inside of the joint, the surface of the cartilage, and the ligaments through tiny incisions in the joint with a device that has a tiny camera.

This method is also called joint mirroring. One of the great advantages of the arthroscopic procedure is that the procedure can not only diagnose but also treat the damage.

Arthroscopy is suitable for the examination and therapy of cartilage damage, ruptures, swelling, cysts, painful inflammation, detached and blocked cartilage.

What affects my suitability for orthopaedic surgery?

At Medicover Private Hospital, we place great emphasis on preliminary examinations. It is important to us that planned orthopaedic surgery is always preceded by a thorough musculoskeletal examination, which includes at least one specialist consultation with the surgeon to determine the exact procedure required and to provide the patient with as much information as possible about the surgery.

If you have not seen a specialist with a complaint before, we recommend that you visit our orthopaedic clinic, where the specialist will make an accurate diagnosis and recommend treatment with the help of physical and, if necessary, modern imaging examinations (MRI, CT, X-ray).

If you have already seen a specialist with a complaint, who has suggested surgical treatment, book an appointment for a surgical consultation where the specialist performing the surgery will determine if the surgery can be performed. Be sure to bring any previous findings and medical recommendation to the consultation.

If the surgery is prescribed in our hospital, your doctor will inform you about the necessary pre-operative tests, and your anaesthesiologist will recommend the most suitable surgical anaesthesia based on the results during the personal consultation.
