X-rays pass through the body and are absorbed differently in each tissue and organ. The rays passing through the tissues are captured by the X-ray detector and the resulting signals are converted into an image by the computer. With the help of the examination, cancerous and pathological lesions, bleeding, internal injuries and inflammations can also be seen.

As the CT scan involves radiation, a specialist consultation is always required before the scan, where the clinician will consider whether the scan is warranted based on the symptoms. Due to radiation exposure, CT examination should only be performed on the basis of a medical recommendation.

What types of diseases does urography CT scan help diagnose?

Urography CT may be requested by your doctor if you have the possibility of kidney stones, cancer or acute inflammation. CT scan is also suitable for monitoring the condition of cancer patients.

When it is recommended?

Your doctor may consider a scan if you have low back and lower abdominal pain, bloody urine, frequent, excruciating urination.

How to prepare for the CT scan?

In all cases, the treating physician should be consulted prior to the examination, as CT examination should only be performed on medical advice due to radiation exposure. If your doctor orders a contrast agent enhanced examination, you will also need kidney function laboratory results that show creatinine and urea. In the case of a contrast-enhanced study, please arrive on an empty stomach (don’t eat for 6 hours prior to the examination)

How is a urographic CT scan performed?

A CT device resembles a large, thick ring with a table at the bottom on which you lie motionless while CT scans are taken. The test device makes a roaring sound during operation. The patient does not feel any pain during the examination.

When is it not recommended?

This test is performed using X-rays and is therefore not recommended during pregnancy as it may be dangerous to the fetus. Very rarely, after an explicit medical professional reason, after a certain week of pregnancy, we also accept pregnant patients for CT scans. In case of a contrast agent enhanced test, if the eGFR of the renal function is below 45 ml / min, the test could not be performed.

What to expect after the CT scan?

The finding alone is not a diagnosis. After the test, please always consult a specialist with the result.

In case of a contrast enhanced examination, an allergic reaction may occur in some cases. Anyone who is allergic to iodine can not be examined this way.

When to expect your results?

The completed recording will be reviewed by the radiologist and the result will be available in our online system after 3 working days.
