Faecal M2-PK (enzymatic intestinal tumour screening) and faecal blood (human haemoglobin)

Faecal M2-PK (enzymatic bowel tumour screening) is a new screening test for colorectal cancer that targets a tumour marker enzyme. Most tumours in the human body produce large amounts of the pyruvate kinase (PK) dimeric M2 isoenzyme. This tumour M2-PK is derived from tumour cells and can be quantified in body fluids.

A positive result may indicate gastrointestinal gland cancer (gastrointestinal adenoma), rectal malignancy (colorectal carcinoma), or other gastrointestinal malignancy (gastrointestinal carcinoma).

In case of a positive finding, further examinations and colonoscopy are recommended. If a too diluted stool is tested, the test may give a false low value. The test requires a special sampling device, which can be requested at Medicover Clinics.

How do I prepare for the test?

It is important to note that diarrheal stools are not suitable for testing and should not take place during menstruation! You can request the special sampling container at the reception of our Clinics.

When is the result expected?

3-5 working days after the examination.
